A day late, but it’s still worth wishing all the lovely poets on World poetry day as poetry is for lifetime.
Now, defining poetry is complicated, maybe because the characteristic most central to the definition of poetry is its unwillingness to be defined, labeled, or nailed down.
What: It’s a feel good factor that a calendar day is earmarked by UNESCO for poets across the globe reminding the purpose of the day i.e.; to promote the reading, writing, publishing and teaching of poetry throughout the world.
Many writings are read and shared during this week at various platforms and poetry marathons and contests conducted as part of celebration.
Why: It is said that UNESCO recognizes in poetry its value as a symbol of the human spirit’s creativity because Poetry reaffirms our common humanity by revealing to us that individuals, everywhere in the world, share the same questions and feelings.
Poetry, being the mainstay of oral tradition and, over centuries, can communicate the innermost values of diverse cultures.
It reminds me of the beautiful expression in ‘The dead poets society’ which aptly describes why poetry:
“We don’t read and write poetry because it’s cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for.”
And it gives me immense pleasure for revealing my theme for this years AtoZ blog challenge on such a day :):)
This gave me a push and showed my theme:
A to Z forms of poetry followed across the world would be my theme for this year.
Hope my third year of AZing also goes smooth as the last 2 years. Catch you on 1st .

That sounds like a really hard theme – but you obviously are a much more knowledgeable poet than I will ever be. I could do H and S on that theme but after that, nothing. Can’t wait to see how you do it.

Wonderful theme…educational too.
Poetry is my first love…but has since been ousted by flash fiction. 🙂
I’ll see you around on the A to Z circuit.

Never too late to wish someone well.
Have fun on the A to Z! I’m doing this for the first time. I believe I’m supposed to introduce myself? I’m Julie. A writer and a book blogger. #1628 on the A to Z Challenge. Thesaurus Tyrannosaurus. Next time, I’m going to choose a theme that’s easier to spell.
