Well, D is for
Wait…its not the city Doha what you think, its a Hindi stanzaic form with self-contained rhyming couplet in poetry composed in Mātrika metre. This genre of poetry first became common in Apabhraṃśa and was commonly used in Hindi and Urdu poetry. This form is often written as didactic (i.e; contain a clear moral or message or purpose to convey to its reader) or used in longer narrative mythological verses.
Example of Doha by Kabir Das( said to be the Shakesphere of Hindi poetry) is here:
“Chalti Chakki Dekh Kar, Diya Kabira Roye
Do Paatan Ke Beech Mein,Sabit Bacha Na Koye”
Translation (By Rabindranath Tagore):
Watching the grinding stones, the lamp of Kabir Cries
between the Two Stones, no one survives
The English couplets which share the same form of Doha originated a little after this period. And I have tried my hand at this form too…
As and when new surprises unfold,
Remember its life, and everything isn’t told

Nice! I like the rhythm in this one. I know little about poetry outside of Europe; sometimes the translations don’t quite reflect the original sound…
